Acoustic alert device for overtaking which comprises infrared emitters 6, 7, 15, 16 for emitting infrared signals of different frequencies, and infrared detectors 9, 10, 18, 19 for detecting said frequencies. These emitted and detected frequencies 2, 3, 4, 11, 22, 21, 20 will be amplified in each vehicle, activating low- frequency circuits 12, 25, 24, 23 which will emit different sounds via a small loudspeaker 29 oriented towards the driver's left ear, advising him that the vehicle in front is braking or reversing, that the vehicle behind is attempting to pass, that the vehicle in front is advising him not to overtake, or that the vehicle in front is allowing him to overtake.
