In order to limit the duration of the final spin, the calculated value (TE) of the duration of this phase is compared with a predetermined maximum value (TEM), and if the calculated value is greater than the maximum value, a new value of the load (Ch) in the drum is determined, corresponding to the duration of a cycle (TCDM) which includes a final spin phase of a maximum duration (TEM), and a new set value of the thickness of the layer of product in the drum is calculated corresponding to this new value of the load in the drum. <IMAGE>
