STRUCTURAL DOUBLE GLAZING WITH MECHANICAL FIXING AND THERMAL BREAK

Curtain walls and roof glazing, specifically what is known as "structural glazing", are described, wherein the structure cannot be seen from outside. When they are to be installed, the double glazing units (1+2+3 and 1'+2'+3') are secured to the framework by screws (6) and holding members (7) supported by the peripheral sections (4) of two adjoining glazing units (1+2+3 and 1'+2'+3'). The essential function of said sections (4) is mechanically to secure the inner walls (2) of the adjoining glazing units while supporting both the inner (2) and outer (1) walls thereof, as well as to protect the edges of the panes of glass (1 and 2) during handling and transportation prior to installation. When assembled, the peripheral sections (4) are incorporated between the two walls (1 and 2) of a glazing unit (1+2+3) and a medium-hard packing and protecting seal (5) is inserted therebetween. The peripheral section (4) is designed to consist of a central housing (9) for receiving a fixing device (10), two tabs (11) inserted between the walls (1 and 2) and forming a ventilation and moisture-escape channel (12), inner (13) and outer (14) flanges adjacent to said housing (9) and supporting said walls (1 and 2), the outer flange (14) having an extension formed from a double lug (15), and finally a inner buffer in the form of a lug (8) to take up pressure from the mechanical fixing elements (6 and 7).
