<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a compound image superior in expressing performance for both a contour part and a flat part by using a separation and interpolation encoding method for the separation and interpolation code of the contour and gradation of variable subsampling. CONSTITUTION:Original image information is separated to contour information representing a position where difference between images exceeds a prescribed value and gradation information for which thinning processing is applied, and they are stored in a contour information buffer 13 and a gradation information buffer 15, respectively, and are compounded at an image signal interpolating and synthesizing part 16. A compounded reproducing image is inputted to a reproducing image distortion calculation part 17, and a difference signal between a picture element interpolated in a prescribed block and an original picture element is found, and distortion calculation is performed based on the difference signal, and when the value of distortion is more deteriorated than a certain threshold value, the interval of the thinning processing of the original picture element is further fractionized, and the gradation information with fractionized interval is used for the block. In such a manner, it is possible to perform encoding superior in expressing performance for the contour part and the flat part even with compressibility less than bit/picture element.</p> |
