The colourmetric detector for gas or liquid with a reagent reservoir has housing enabling viewing of a porous carrier (5) contg. a colour indicator, and a reagent sol. (19). The contents of a reagent reservoir (3) with which the gas or liquid makes a colour reaction are brought into contact with the carrier so as to moisten it for a measurement to take place. The reagent sol. discharges into a reagent collection chamber (6) between the carrier and reservoir when the reservoir is opened. The carrier is passed through the chamber to be moistened. ADVANTAGE - Enables uniform moistening of carrier surface with reagent sol.
