NEW MATERIAL:A microbial strain having the following properties. Proliferative by using an aromatic compound as the sole carbon source and resistant to at least one of aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alicyclic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, ketones and their derivatives or their mixture. EXAMPLE:Arthrobacter.sp.X-37 (FERM P-11174). USE:Waste liquor treatment for petrochemical industries, host microorganism for gene recombination, etc. PREPARATION:A soil (e.g. soil of a petroleum refinery of Goi District, Chiba Prefecture, Japan) is added to a medium free from carbon source, an aromatic compound (e.g. benzene) is added to the medium as a carbon source, the microorganisms in the soil are cultured under aerobic condition at pH5-9 or thereabout and 20-40 deg.C for 1-30 days and the obtained colony is separated. |
