PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer sheet using a magenta dye satisfying all of conditions required as a sublimable dye by providing a colorant layer containing a specific tricyanovinyl dye. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer sheet has a colorant layer containing a binder and a tricyanovinyl dye represented by formula (wherein R<1> is a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group or a substituted or non-substituted phenyl group and R<2> and R<3> are a lower alkyl group). Since the tricyanovinyl dye represented by the general formula has a sharp magenta color, said dye is suitable for obtaining full-color recording good in color reproducibility by combining the magenta dye with proper cyan and yellow colors and, since this dye is easy to sublime and/or thermally diffuse and has a high molecular absorption coefficient, recording of high color density can be obtained at high speed without applying large load to a thermal head. Further, since this dye is stable against heat, light, humidity or chemicals, it is not thermally decomposed during transfer recording and an obtained recording image is excellent in preservability and especially excellent in light fastness. |
