Shrouding for a rotary surface aerator employed for the aeration of tanks intended for water treatment by an aerobic route, consisting of a skirt surrounding the aerator, characterised in that the skirt (6) is made of a flexible substance or material and is ballasted at its lower part. The skirt may consist of a single, preformed article, in the shape of a conical frustum and may also consist of a plurality of strips (9) of trapezoidal shape, which are mounted so that, when the aerator is in operation, the skirt flares by relative sliding of the strips one in relation to another, these strips overlapping to isolate from the environment the atmosphere created by the aerator.
