To monitor the action in waxing a thread, where it passes over a body of paraffin or wax or a mixt., a proximity sensor registers the min. size of the body which decreases as material is taken off by friction contact with the thread. An electrical switch system is activated by the sensor signals to stop the winder and trigger a warning signal. An electronic proximity sensor (22,32) at the waxing station (8) works with an indirect action without contact with the paraffin body (9) according to its min. size (9'). The sensor (22,32) is connected (24,25; 34,35,36) to an electric switch assembly (23) which, in turn, is connected (26,27,28) to the drive (39)of the winder (1) and to an indicator (29,30). The switches (R,31) disconnect the drive (3) at the winder (1) when the sensors (22,32) register the min. size (9') of the paraffin body (9) and switch over or switch on the indicator (29,30). The sensor (22,32) is a magnetic field sensor. ADVANTAGE - The system ensures that the thread is fully treated with the paraffin, without risk that stretches would be omitted through insufficient wax material.
