PURPOSE:To make a display bright and prevent the display from being viewed double by using such liquid crystal that light which is incident on a liquid crystal cell and reaches a reflecting plate center a almost linear polarized state. CONSTITUTION:Various conditions of the liquid crystal cell are determined so that the light which is incident on the liquid crystal cell 1 and reaches the reflecting plate 4 becomes linear polarized light. The incident light is polarized linearly by a polarizing plate 2 and generally changes into elliptic polarized light while having a phase difference because of the birefringence of liquid crystal molecules. The light becomes linear polarized light when reaching the reflecting plate. On the return path where the light travels while reflected, the light travels having exactly the same polarization change with that on the going path to become the original linear polarized light again, so that the light can passes through the polarizing plate without any loss of the quantity of light. Consequently, the display is bright, coloring is small, and the display is prevented from being viewed double. |
