摘要 PURPOSE:To measure fluorescent X-rays with high sensitivity by arranging a gas cell into which exciting gas is introduced and a photomultiplier tube in the inner cylinder of a double cylinder having a gastight structure and applying a polymer membrane to the X-ray passing windows of the inner and outer cylinders of the double cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The fluorescent X-rays within a soft X-ray region incident to an Xe gas cell 5 through Mylar windows 2, 4 are photoelectrically absorbed by Xe to form a primary electron group. In this case, when voltages 170eV, 5keV are respectively preliminarily applied to metal meshes 7, 9, the primary electron group is accelerated between the metal meshes 7, 9 and Xe atoms are excited in the space between the mesh 9 and an org. wavelength converting agent 11 to be allowed to emit light. The Xe excited light is converted to visible light by the org. wavelength converting agent 11 while the visible light is incident to a photomultiplier tube 12 to be converted to an electric signal which is, in turn, amplified by a preamplifier 13 to be taken out of electric wiring 14. Therefore, when the electric wiring 14 is connected to a proper counting circuit, the energy of soft X-rays and the number of photons can be measured.
