A through the needle catheter device is described which includes apparatus for threading a catheter (40) into a blood vessel. The apparatus is irreversible during the threading process. The catheter device also includes means (30, 62) for irreversibly withdrawing and splitting the needle (60). A technique is provided for inserting the needle (60), threading the catheter (40), and withdrawing the needle (60) from a patient. |
