PURPOSE: To control a chip flow on a rake face and shorten a chip length immediately after a shearing process by forming one or several nodes in the form of spherical segments, truncated cones or truncated pyramids on the rake face of a cut-off edge or a cutter edge changeable in a tool holder. CONSTITUTION: A rake face 8 is divided into a square central region 10 and edge sections 11, the edge sections 11 are lifted toward the edges of the rake face 8 and are heaved in the form of truncated pyramids that nodes 12 have corners 13, thus pyramids having many or few angles are used, and the corners 13 are advantageous for crushing chips. A groove-like recess 15 is communicated with the corner 16 of the central region 10 from a corner 14, and a chip flow is aligned to the nodes 12. Chip deformation recesses 18 are provided in front of the nodes 12, the surfaces of the edge sections 11 kept in contact with a cutting angle 9 are lowered in the form of spherical segments, the recesses 18 or nodes 12 penetrate the edge sections 11 or central region 10 in the feeding direction 17, and a boundary angle 19 has a tangential line to the edges of the recesses 18 and the edges of the nodes 12. |
