The novel alcohols of the formula <IMAGE> in which R<a> is azido or phthalimido, R<4> is alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, and R<7> and R<8> together denote a trimethylene or tetramethylene group which is optionally substituted by hydroxyl, alkoxycarbonylamino or acylamino, or in which a -CH2- group is replaced by -NH-, -N-(alkoxycarbonyl)-, -N(acyl)- or -S-, or to which a cycloalkane ring, an aromatic or a heteroaromatic ring is fused, and R<9> is alkoxycarbonyl, monoalkylcarbamoyl, monoaralkylcarbamoyl, monoarylcarbamoyl or a group of the formula <IMAGE> in which R<10> and R<11> in each case are alkyl, are valuable intermediates, for example in the preparation of amino acid derivatives which can be used for the prophylaxis or treatment of viral infections. |
