A system is described for driving volatile contaminants from ground water and from the zones of ground through which such water flows, by introducing air or other gases into a drilling made in such a zone of ground, and then drawing off the air that has absorbed the contaminants. In the described system, the drilling is closed off at its lower end by a solid-walled cup-like body, and two concentric pipes for introducing and removing gases are introduced into the drilling, the innermost of the two pipes for introducing gases extending down into the interior of the solid-walled cup-like body.
