Process for the manufacture of filter membranes from a binary mixture, optionally in solution, of incompatible polymers, one being the polymer constituting the membrane and the other being a pore-forming agent, comprising a stage of formation of the membrane with, if appropriate, evaporation of the solvent and a stage of removal of the pore-forming agent, separate from or coincident with the formation stage, characterised in that it comprises a stage of heat treatment of the membrane formed, consisting in subjecting it to an incipient melting, in cooling it rapidly to a temperature between the glass transition temperature and the melting temperature of the constituent polymer and in keeping it at this temperature for the time needed to control the crystallisation of the constituent polymer before it is allowed to cool to ambient temperature.
