Water-tight, water vapour-permeable multilayer laminated material, esp. shoe material, consisting of a hard-wearing fabric of polyamide or polyester with an area wt. of 50-500 g/m2, esp. 100-200 g/m2 as outer layer, a water-tight, water vapour-permeable polyurethane layer of 20-150 g/m2, esp. 30-90 g/m2 as barrier layer, and a non-woven or knitted fabric layer of hydrophobic material, esp. polypropylene of 20-150 g/m2, esp. 30-90 g/m2 as inner material. The materials are made e.g. by (a) coating the outer material with a water vapour permeable high solids polyurethane barrier layer compsn., applying the inner layer material to the still tacky uncrosslinked coating and crosslinking the barrier layer, or (b) forming the water-tight, water-vapour permeable polyurethane layer on the inner layer material by the inversion process and attaching this to the outer layer material by pointwise bonding. USE/ADVANTAGE - The material is a cost-advantageous, water-tight, water vapour permeable material having the properties required for the prodn. of leisure shoes, boots, etc. The material is comfortable to wear, keeps water out and allows the feet to breathe.
