A method for assaying bilirubin present in a biological medium in a conjugated and/or unconjugated form. A sample of the medium is placed in an electrochemical cell (121) containing a conductive aqueous solution (123) with a pH of between 3 and 10, then a suitable potential is applied to an active electrode (127), with respect to a reference electrode, to oxidize at least some of the bilirubin present in the sample, and the amount of bilirubin thereby oxidized is determined. Furthermore, a reagent, such as a diazoreaction accelerator, a surface active agent or an organic solvent, is added. It acts to break the BR-Alb bonds and/or to solubilize the bilirubin in the solution. However, this reagent is not necessary in some cases.
|
