<p>A recording-reproduction device is provided with at least one pair of recording-reproduction heads and a plurality of pairs of variable speed reproduction heads, which divides up and records onto a plurality of tracks video signals for one field and conducts reproduction of the video signals recorded on the tracks. The height disparities between the paired heads of the variable speed reproduction heads are set to three times the height disparities of the recording- reproduction heads so that image signals corresponding to horizontal scanning lines appearing at nearly regular line intervals on a reproduction screen can be reproduced from the tracks. The device comprises a reproduction processing circuit which obtains video signals for a variable speed reproduction whose video signal band is compressed by causing at least one of those setting conditions of the field frequency, the number of horizontal scanning lines and the horizontal scanning frequency for video signals to be reproduced to vary with the setting conditions relating to the video signals recorded on the tracks. Accordingly, it is possible to form a pictorial image possessing a picture quality sufficient for the performing of search using only a part of the recorded video signals. The device is further provided with a simplified monitor for displaying a pictorial image based on the video signals for the variable speed reproduction at the tide of variable speed reproduction.</p> |
