LCD arrangement providing grey tone display - involving multilevel grey stage pulse generator for displaying several grey stages without degrading image quality

An LCD display system has an image change controller which generates 2 to the power of j types of image change control data corresp. to a j bit display data value in a (i+j) bit data value and selects a type of image change control data control data value. A multilevel grey stage pulse generator produces pulses of 2 to the power of i +1 types. A selector/driver selects a display pulse from these types according to the generated control data value and applies it to an LC panel which can display 2 to the power of i + j grey stages. ADVANTAGE - Maintain brightness even if display changes rapidly.
