<p>PURPOSE:To prevent generation of crack in drying of wet gel by using an aliphatic saturated alcohol having a specific carbon number as a solvent alcohol comprising mixture of an alkyl silicate and water. CONSTITUTION:Alkyl silicate is used as principal ingredient and hydrolyzed in the presence of water and alcohol to obtain a wet gel, then the resultant gel is dried, thus sintered to produce a glass. In this method, 3-7C aliphatic saturated alcohol is used as the above-mentioned alcohol and, a uniform gel is able to be prepared with a small amount of alcohol.</p> |
