The magnetisable primary detecting element body (12) is connectable to an object to be detected. The magnetic field, influenced by the primary detector, is provided by a coil unit (10), which forms, with a capacitor (16), an LC circuit. The circuit is energised by an a.c. source to a preset frequency and is connected to an evaluating circuit (24,26), generating an output signal. The output signal generation depends on a voltage in the circuit reaching a preset value. The a.c. source operating frequency corresponds to that at which the LC circuit has a max. The coil unit is thermally coupled to a temp. sensor (20). The a.c. source, or the evaluating circuit, has a modifying circuit, to which the temp. sensor output signal is applied. ADVANTAGE - Wide temp. compensation even for increased switching distance.
