<p>The elastic belt (1) is made of a stretchable web material (2), the warp threads (5) of which vary in their elasticity. By this means, zones (7, 8, 9) of different stretching characteristics can be provided in the longitudinal direction of the elastic belt (1) without additional effort being required in terms of manufacture or the appearance being considerably changed. If the warp threads (5) in the zone (9) of the elastic belt (1) located in the region of the hip bones are less stretchable than the warp threads (5a) in the vicinity of the opposite longitudinal edge (3), reduced forces are transmitted to the elastic belt (1) by the hip bones during movement and thus displacement of the elastic belt (1) is avoided during use.
