The invention relates to a process for the treatment of communal and industrial wastewaters and for obtaining valuable humus, and a plant for this purpose. According to the invention, the wastewater to be treated is passed via retention tanks which are covered with an immission protection layer consisting of biological covering materials. The sediments are pumped out of the retention tanks and are dewatered and composted.
