PURPOSE:To prevent a clad from burning by varying the refractive index of the clad in the lengthwise direction of the optical fiber and dispersing the heat loss on an end surface of the clad over a wide range. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber F for laser beam transmission consists of a core 1 as its center part and the clad 2 covering the outer peripheral part of the core 1. This clad 2 has clads 3 - 5, K-1, and K formed divisionally and adjacently from the end surface. Namely, the part of the clad 2 extending lengthwise from the end part to a part having a refractive index n2 consists of the plural parts which decrease in refractive index from the refractive index n2 to constitute the optical fiber for laser beam transmission. The energy loss (heat loss) can be dispersed over a wide range. Consequently, the clad is prevented from burning owing to heat convergence. |
