Cold-setting adhesives for highly-plasticised PVC materials consists of a solvent for the PVC material a PVC resin and a plasticiser. The preferred solvents are methylethyl ketone and, esp. tetrahydrofurane. Phosphate plasticisers are preferred. The ratio, plasticiser/resin is about 1/2 and resin/solvent is about 1/5. The adhesive is applied to the PVC and rapidly forms a skin which slows down the evaporation of the solvent, giving time for the solvent to cause solvation of the PVC material and so give a good bond when dry. Used for bonding plastic decoration to fabrics. |
