For filtering out a particulate material from a carrier fluid (24) such as flue gases, a main vessel (12) defines an interior compartment (14) having an inlet (22) and separate outlet (26). A number of filter assemblies (16a, 16b) are disposed within the vessel compartment (14) and supported therein in spaced relationship with one another and with the vessel itself by a tubular member (18) which also serves as a discharge pipe between the filter assemblies (16a, 16b) and the outlet (26). The main vessel (12) acts as an elementary cyclone so that filtering is carried out by both the filter assemblies and cyclonic action. The filters (52) are periodically cleaned by reverse pressure pulses applied from a source (92) through preheating heat recuperators (96), which are heated by hot cleaned gas bled off through valved (102) bleed outlets (100). The filters (52) are attached to the lower faces of tube sheets (54) for easy removal. |
