PURPOSE:To attain accurate identification and to render an image with high quality by identifying a halftone area from a character line drawing area from the size of a rectangle and a ratio of the number of picture elements of a binary image in the rectangle to that after extracting a contour setting the rectangle as identification unit. CONSTITUTION:A binarization processing is applied on image input data inputted with multivalues from a scanner, etc., by a binarization processing means 1. A rectangle forming processing to connect a black picture element is applied on a binarized image by a rectangle forming processing means 3, and also, after an isolated point is eliminated from the image by an isolated point eliminating means 5, the extraction processing of the contour is applied by a contour extracting means 6. An area judging means 8 identifies the character line drawing area from the halftone area from the size of the rectangle and the ratio of the number of binary black picture elements to the picture element whose contour is extracted. In such a way, it is possible to accurately identify a character line drawing image in a document image from a halftone image, and a satisfactory reproducing image can be obtained. |
