PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A MIXTURE OF ETHYLENE AND BUTENE-1

Mixts. of ethylene and 1-butene are prepd. by reaction of C2H4 and trialkyl-al in a solvent in a boiling red reaction zone at 200-325 deg. C and 0.79-10.45 MPa using C2H4:Al ratio of 2002000:1. The solvent may be C8-40 inert hydrocarbon. The reaction is pref. carried out using excess C2H4 and a dil. soln. of Al, in a vertical reaction zone in which the hydrocarbon is heating to boiling at its lower end and cooled below it at the upper end. Ethylene copolymers are prepd. from a mixt. of C2H4 and 1-butene prepd. by separate dimerisation stage of in situ in the polymerisation reactor.
