PURPOSE:To detect motion with the high precision by providing a detecting means which detects the saturation level of a picture signal at the time of detecting the motion from the picture signal and changing the extent of motion for motion detection by the output signal of this detecting means. CONSTITUTION:Digital picture signals R, G, and B outputted from a synchronizing memory 43 are inputted to a saturation detecting circuit 51 which detects the saturation of input signals and a motion detecting circuit 52 which detects the extent of motion. When the input picture signal is in the saturated state, the saturation detecting circuit 51 sends a decision signal indicating the saturated state to the motion detecting circuit 52. This circuit 62 changes its detection characteristic in accordance with the decision signal to obtain the extent of motion of each picture signal and outputs it to a threshold circuit 53. Consequently, erroneous discrimination of less motion due to the saturation level is prevented. That is, the motion is detected with high precision. |
