<p>PURPOSE:To enlarge the function of a hard copying device by selecting encoding processing by an encoding circuit and decoding processing by a decoding circuit as needed by first and second switching means. CONSTITUTION:It is selected by the switching operation of change-over switches 3B and 5B whether picture data from a picture source are passed through an encoding circuit 3 and a decoding circuit 5 or not. When the changeover switches 3B and 5B are respectively changed over to the encoding circuit 3 side and decoding circuit 5 side, the picture data are encoded by the encoding circuit 3, compressed and afterwards, written to a picture memory 4. Namely, since the picture data include a redundant component, this redundant component is removed from the picture data by the encoding circuit 3. When encoding is executed by utilizing the statistical character of the picture data, the information quantity of the picture data can be compressed and the plural pieces of the picture data can be stored.</p> |
