PURPOSE: To obtain a superconductive fiber having high critical current density and useful for magnet, power transmission line, etc. by dispersing a precursor of superconductive oxide particles in an organic solvent solution of an organic polymer, extruding the obtained spinnable dispersion and firing the obtained fiber at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION: A superconductive fiber having improved critical current density and composed of a superconductive oxide of formula (M is Y, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu or the like) is produced by dispersing a chemically homogeneous particulate precursor of a superconductive oxide composed of an amorphous M compound, CuO and barium carbonate having the atomic ratio M:Ba:Cu of 1:2:3 in an organic solvent solution of an organic polymer. The dispersion contains >=70 wt.% of particles based on the sum of the polymer and the particles. The dispersion is extruded in the form of a fiber and fired at >=1000 deg.C to obtain the objective superconductive fiber.
