PURPOSE:To suppress the rise of pH of an electrolyte by storing a carbon material in a small chamber in a positive electrode side electrolyte circulating passage, and reacting the free bromine in the electrolyte and water using the carbon material as a catalyst to generate hydrogen bromide. CONSTITUTION:A small chamber 46 partitioned by a polyolefin fine porous film is arranged in part of a positive electrode side electrolyte storage tank 22, and a carbon material 49 is stored in the small chamber 46. The polyolefin fine porous film is used as the separator film of a zinc-bromine battery, water and free bromine permeate it, but a lipophilic bromine complex compound rarely permeates it. Free bromine and water are reacted via a carbon material 49 serving as a catalyst in the small chamber 46 partitioned by the translucent fine porous film to generate hydrogen bromide. The rise of pH of the electrolyte can be effectively suppressed without consuming the bromine complex compound. |
