Titanium or tantalum electrode - placed over evacuated sheet of copper, with evacuated intermediate spaces

Electrode is produced from outer sheets (2,3) e.g. of Ti or Ta, which are placed over an inner sheet (1) e.g. partic. of Cu the intermediate spaces being evacuated to give good contact. Explosive charges (7) are placed on the outer sheets and are ignited to form bulges welding the outer sheets to the inner sheets with corresponding incidents on the other side. Explosive charges can be placed first on one side and ignited and then can be placed and ignited on the other side. ADVANTAGE - Reduced electric resistance between sheets.
