The armature of a relay-fitted with a core, a yoke, and a coil acts on a moving contact on a contact spring, e.g. via an actuating member. The armature (4) is attenuated and surrounds the contact spring (7) of the moving contact (8) without free play. The actuating member (11) acts in the same way and is coupled to the armature also without free play. In the region of the contact spring, the armature or the actuating member is fitted with a spring (10), pressing the contact spring against a stop on the armature or the actuating member. The contact spring of the moving contact may engage a slit in the armature or actuating member. With the armature unattracted, the coil (3) is under constant current smaller than than that required for the armature attraction.
