PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical octane value of an engine by controlling the temperature of the cooling water flowing through the water jacket of a cylinder head and the temperature of the cooling water flowing through the water jacket of a cylinder block individually by use of a transfer means. CONSTITUTION:When the temperatures of the cooling water in individual water jackets WJ 4, 5 of a cylinder head 2 and a cylinder block 3 are both below the predetermined value, control valves 9, 20 are closed, and the cooling water discharged by a water pump 7 flows into WJ4, then flows into WJ5 through a connecting passage 18, and is next fed back to said pump 7 through a control valve 16 and a conduit 17. On the other hand, when the temperatures of the cooling water in WJ4, 5 exceed the predetermined value, the control valve 16 is closed, and the cooling water flowing through WJ4 is fed back to the pump 7 from an outlet port 8 through a conduit 10 and a radiator 11. Then, when the temperature of the cooling water in WJ5 rises and the pressure is increased, the cooling water in WJ5 is fed to the conduit 10 from a connecting passage 19 through the control valve 20. |
