PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for grooving of each piece and to improve the productivity of the case by forming a groove to a large-diameter base material for the case, heating and stretching the base material and shrinking the material to a prescribed shape, and then cutting the material. CONSTITUTION:The base material 12 for the reinforcing case of the optical fiber coupler is made into the shape resembling to the shape of the reinforcing case and into the large diameter. Quartz which is the same as the coupler material is usually used for the material. The groove 11 is formed to this base material 12 and the material is heated to a molten state in a high-temp. heating furnace 12, such as carbon resistance furnace; further, the material is subjected to a stretching treatment and is diametrally reduced to the same size as the diameter of the reinforcing case to form the stretching body 14. Then, this stretching body 14 is cut into required length to form the reinforcing case. The labor for grooving each piece of the fine reinforcing case materials is, therefore, eliminated and the production efficiency of the case is extremely improved. |
