Method for conveying a web through a transverse cutting device and a drum cutter

When webs are conveyed through a drum cutter, there is an unfortunate tendency, in the case of thin elastic webs, for the start of the web brought about by cutting action to remain sticking to the lower cutter owing to a lack of inherent rigidity and to circulate with the said cutter. In order to prevent this, it is proposed that shortly after termination of transverse cutting, the cut-off start (15) of the web be raised from the lower cutting blade (4) and be deposited on a conveyor (12) arranged downstream while the forward movement is continued. To achieve this there are used on the lower cutter drum (2), looking in the direction (17) of rotation, there is situated a lifting device (5) immediately downstream of the cutter (4), which device (5) projects after cutting beyond the envelope curve (8) which is generated during rotation of the cutter (4) of the lower cutter drum (2). <IMAGE>
