A method is described for testing connection and/or switching equipment, in particular of a space-division multiplex switching matrix (K) in which one or more of a multiplicity of input lines (Di, Cj) can be connected to one or more of a plurality of output lines (Yk) and in which a check word is formed for testing purposes. A first check word (PB1) is derived from the signals on the input lines (Di, Cj) and in addition a further check word (PB2) is derived from the signals on the output lines (Yk) by applying the same formation rules.
