The present invention relates to a fruit gripper for a machine for gathering fruits, and machine equipped with such a gripper. The gripper includes a gripper member 3 mounted in the body 2 with a latitude for rotational displacement about the axis AA', this member 3 being in engagement with driving members which drive it rotationally when it has seized the fruit so that the latter is separated from the peduncle support by twisting and/or pulling of the stalk and breakage of the latter. The machine is characterised in that the displacement of the gripper towards the fruit takes place along an axis which is parallel to the optical axis of siting the fruit to be gathered, this optical axis being that of an artificial viewing system with which the said machine is equipped. <IMAGE>
