Sensors measure the actual level of the molten metal, and their output is used to correct this level to a required value by varying the flow rate and the speed of the casting process. The output signal from an eddy-current level measuring unit is corrected, before being converted into a control signal, by means of a correction device which takes into account the surrounding electromagnetic field, and whose correcting action is derived from the output signal of a measuring device consisting of probes dipping into the molten metal. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used in continuous casting machines for producing metal sheets or profiles. The level of the metal in the molten pool can be maintained accurately at a constant value, and can be accurately controlled during the operation of the machine. The properties of the finished cast product can therefore be better controlled, leading to a higher quality of finished product.
