Motor vehicle with a hydrostatic differential in the drive train of an automatically engaging four-wheel drive

The motor vehicle has a four-wheel drive, in which the wheels of one axle are permanently driven and the drive to the wheels of the second axle is automatically engaged at a differential speed to the first axle by way of a four-wheel drive train. A hydrostatic differential (22) with two planetary gear trains, each assigned to a wheel shaft (24) is situated in the four-wheel drive train. The planetary gear trains act as transmission oil-pumping gear pumps, the pump drive torque of which is utilised directly as locking moment of the hydrostatic differential. The latter thus acts both as clutch and mid-differential in the four wheel drive train and as self-locking axle differential of the second axle, which performs the function of a transverse differential lock in the event of slip on the wheels which have been engaged for drive purposes. <IMAGE>
