<p>A piezo-electric device, suitable for use in a piezo-electric motor or sensor, comprises first and second electrodes (1, 2), between which ferro-electric liquid crystal materials (3) is contained by a sealing member (6). The electrodes (1, 2) are mounted on glass supports (5) and are covered by alignment layers (4). The alignment layers undergo a homogeneous alignment process involving strong rubbing in parallel. The material of one alignment layer attracts spontaneous polarisation of the ferro-electric liquid crystal and the material of the other alignment layer repels such spontaneous polarisation. <IMAGE></p> |
