PURPOSE:To attain accurate focus discrimination quickly by applying focus control so that the integration value of the luminance component of the 1st frequency band extracted from an image pickup signal is a maximum value and discriminating whether or not an integration value of the luminance component in the 2nd frequency band in the 1st frequency band exceeds a prescribed level thereby discriminating the focusing state. CONSTITUTION:A central controller 12 applies focus control so that the integration value by an integration circuit 11 for the luminance component in the 1st frequency band depending on the 1st high pass filter 6a and a low pass filter 9 is a maximum value. Then the central controller 12 discriminates whether or not the integration value by the integration circuit 11 for the luminance component in the 2nd frequency band depending on the 2nd high pass filter 6b and the low pass filter 9 in the 1st frequency band exceeds a prescribed level to apply the focus discrimination. Thus, whether or not the focal state is consecutive is discriminated quickly and accurately without turning a focus ring. |
