A method for making it easier to remove undesirable impurities from a surface, comprising the stages: a) using a solution containing a polysaccharide and a solvent for it on said surface before it is exposed to contamination, said polysaccharide must be capable of producing a redissolvable or balloonable solid film following drying; b) allowing the solution used to be dried and thereby form a solid film on said surface; c) treating the coated surface with a liquid which is capable of redissolving the film or producing ballooning thereof; and d) removing the undesirable impurities by removing the dissolved or ballooned surface layers of the film.
