The invention relates to a method for calculating the average speed of a rotating member within a time interval, characterised in that the time elapsed during an exact number of revolutions of the rotating member is measured. The time elapsed is obtained by counting pulses H emitted by a quartz crystal 3, and the time interval t3-t1 is given by a first signal G emitted by a pulse generator 6 associated with the rotating member, and a later signal G3 emitted by this same pulse generator 6. <IMAGE>
