The present invention discloses a technique for preventing obstacles from being caught in a power window by detecting the overload of the driving motor and suspending or reversely controlling the rotation of the motor in the motor control system. A reference value for detecting the overload is updated in accordance with the actual motor load in every predetermined time interval .DELTA.T but in the present invention when the start of increase of load is detected, the counting of .DELTA.T is restarted from such timing and thereby detection of overload is always carried out within the shortest period. Moreover, a variety of check mechanisms are provided for ensuring fail-safe function and for enhancing reliability.
