发明名称 ANISOTROPY-COMPENSATED TWISTED NEMATIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the view angle by compensating the optical anisotropy of a liquid crystal cell when a liquid crystal layer has positive optical anisotropy at the time of electric field application. CONSTITUTION:Two anisotropic films 15 such as uniaxial films are arranged between the liquid crystal cell including a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer 13 and one of a couple of polarizers 11 and 16 and the optical axes of the uniaxial films are set at 90 deg. in planes parallel to substrates 12 and 14 to give the substrates 12 and 14 negative optical anisotropy vertically on the whole. When an electric field is applied between electrodes, the liquid crystal layer 13 becomes a uniaxial optical medium facing in the direction perpendicular to the substrates 12 and 14 and when positive optical anisotropy is obtained, the optical anisotropy of the liquid crystal cell is compensated with the optical anisotropy of an anisotropy compensating means 15. Consequently, leak light can be sensed in an infinite incidence angle direction.
