PURPOSE:To prevent blowing-by of cooling gases and to improve the quality of products by supplying the cooling gases from the central part of a shaft furnace in a cooling area and the peripheral area in the lower part simultaneously, and discharging the waste cooling gases from both of the central part and peripheral part in the upper part of the cooling area. CONSTITUTION:In a shaft furnace 1 wherein iron oxide is reduced in a shaft part 2, is moved downward in a belly part 4 in a pressure transition zone, is cooled in a cone part 3 provided with a core 6 in the furnace and is removed as a reduced iron product from a bottom part 5, part of cooling gases are introduced from an annular pipe 30 through communicating pipes 31, 32 into blow ports 33, 34 for cooling gases in order to cool the reduced iron, and are then allowed to ascend while cooling the peripheral part in the cone part 3; thereafter, the cooling gases are discharged through discharge ports 16 for waste cooling gases then through suction branch pipes 18. The cooling gases except the above-mentioned gases are blown through a branch pipe 29 for cooling gases and through a supply duct 28, an introducing pipe 7a, and the lower chamber 11 of the core 6 then through a nozzle 27 to cool the reducd iron; thereafter, these gases are admitted from the clearance in the lower part of the cap-like body 13 of the core 6 through discharge ports 12 for waste cooling gases into an upper chamber 10 and are further discharged through discharge pipes 7b to the outside. |
