UNDERGROUND SEARCHING APPARATUS EQUIPPED WITH UNDERGROUND DIELECTRIC CONSTANT MEASURING FUNCTION

PURPOSE:To accurately measure the depth of an embedded object, by calculating the dielectric constant of a medium by calculating the ratio of the radio wave propagation speed in the medium and that in air. CONSTITUTION:The radio wave emitted from a radio wave emitting apparatus 100 is emitted to the ground by a shield cover 104 and a part of said radio wave arrives a receiving apparatus 200 through the propagation path 300 in the vicinity of the surface of the ground and a part thereof is reflected by an embedded body to arrive the receiving apparatus 200 and the surface propagation wave arrives faster than the reflected wave from the embedded body. The propagation time and speed of the surface propagation wave are calculated and the dielectric constant of a medium is calculated from the ratio of the propagation speed of the surface propagation wave and that of the radio wave in air. By this method, the measurement of the dielectric constant is performed in parallel to the searching of the depth up to the embedded body and the depth value of the embedded body is corrected on the basis of the dielectric constant of the medium at that point and ground searching can be performed with high accuracy.
